Faith Statement

Introduction

We, members of Southeast Asian Catalyst (SEAC), from various parts of the United States, and of different Southeast Asian backgrounds, praise God for His great salvation and rejoice in the fellowship He has given us, with Himself and each other. We are deeply stirred by what God is doing in our generation, and are united in our desire and passion to see persons within the Southeast Asian community saved, raised up and sent out into God’s great harvest field. We unite in our efforts to ignite a movement of missional Southeast Asian followers of Jesus Christ to impact the world.

What We Believe

THE TRIUNE GOD: THE FATHER, THE SON AND THE HOLY SPIRIT
We believe in one God, who is creator and Lord of the universe. He is the eternal triune God, revealed to us as Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. He governs all things according to His perfect will. (Gen. 1:1; Isa. 40:28; Matt. 28:19; Eph. 1:11; Rom. 5:5, 8:9, 13-14; 1 Cor. 2:11-12, 14; 2 Cor. 13:14; John 14:10-11, John 10:30)

GOD THE FATHER
God the Father reigns over the universe that He created according to His grace and justice. He is all-powerful, all-knowing, all-loving, and all-wise. (Ex. 15:11; Mat. 6:9-13; Deut. 32:6; 1 Chron. 29:11-12; John 3:16; Psalm 139; 1 Pet. 1:17)

GOD THE SON, JESUS CHRIST
Jesus is the eternal Son of God. At an appointed time, He was supernaturally conceived by the Holy Spirit and born to Mary, a virgin. He was crucified and buried, then physically rose again to life on earth, and finally ascended to heaven. Being fully God and fully man, He lived a perfect life and gave Himself as a ransom for all sinners. He is the only mediator between God and people. Those who reject Him condemn themselves to eternal separation from God. The name of Jesus Christ is exalted above every other name. We long for the day when every knee will bow to Him and every tongue confess that name, and Jesus Christ as Lord
We affirm that there is only one Savior and one Gospel, although there is a wide diversity of evangelistic approaches. We recognize that everyone has some knowledge of God, because He reveals Himself through nature. This revelation by itself, however, can save no one. We reject every kind of syncretism which implies that Christ speaks equally through all religions and ideologies. (John 1:1; Mat. 1:20; Luke 1:34; Gal. 1:6-9;Rom. 1:18-32; I Tim. 2:5,6; Acts 4:12; John 3:16-19; II Pet. 3:9; II Thes. 1:7-9;John 4:42; Matt. 11:28; Eph. 1:20,21; Phil. 2:9-11)

GOD THE HOLY SPIRIT
The Holy Spirit was sent by God the Father and by Jesus to be our Comforter and Counselor. He enables persons who have received Jesus Christ to understand truth by illuminating their minds. We need the power that comes from the Holy Spirit in order to take the message of Christ to others. (John 14:16; John 16:7; John 16:12; Eph. 1:13,14; Acts 1:8; Rom. 5:5; Tit. 3:5-7; Eph. 1:13; Rom. 8:2)

THE RETURN OF CHRIST
We believe that Jesus Christ will return personally and visibly, in power and glory, to consummate His salvation and judgment. His promise to return inspires us to evangelize boldly and swiftly, as we remember what He said about good news being preached to all nations before He returns. We believe that the period between Christ’s ascension and return is to be filled with the mission of the people of God. Our Christian confidence is that God will perfect His kingdom, so we look forward with eager anticipation to that day, and to the new heaven and earth in which righteousness and justice will dwell and God will reign forever. Meanwhile, we rededicate ourselves to the service of Christ and of people, in joyful submission to His authority over the whole of our lives. (Mark 14:62; Heb. 9:28; Mark 13:10; Acts 1:8-11; Matt. 28:20; Mark 13:21-23; John 2:18; 4:1-3; Luke 12:32; Rev. 21:1-5; II Pet. 3:13; Matt. 28:18)

THE BIBLE
We believe in the divine inspiration, truthfulness and authority of both Old and New Testament scriptures, in their entirety. The Bible is the only written word of God. It is without error in all that it affirms and is the only infallible rule of faith and practice. We affirm the power of God’s word to accomplish His purpose of salvation. God’s revelation in Christ and in Scripture is unchangeable. The Holy Spirit still speaks today and illuminates the minds of God’s people in every culture, to freshly perceive the truth of God’s Word. (II Tim. 3:16; II Pet. 1:21; John 10:35; Isa. 55:11; 1 Cor. 1:21; Rom. 1:16, Matt. 5:17,18; Jude 3; Eph. 1:17,18; 3:10,18)

UNITY OF THE WORK
We believe that the development of leaders for a missional movement demands unity. No one person, congregation or ministry can do it alone. There are millions of unreached Southeast Asians around the world. Before unity can take place, our shortcomings as the people of God must be recognized. Because we need to live in unity, our cultural, historical, ideological and denominational differences must be overcome. We need to be in prayer for one another, as Christ is in prayer for us. The key ingredients to unity are faith, desire, and person-to-person relationships. (Eccl. 4:20; Eph. 4:3; Eph. 4:4,5)

LEADERSHIP DEVELOPMENT AND CULTURE
We believe that there is a need for healthy contextual leadership development within the Southeast Asian Christian community. Therefore, we join our hearts and our hands together in various strategic initiatives. We seek to do our part for and in God’s Kingdom, by hosting and promoting regional and national leadership conferences, prayer movements, and other key events or activities. We also join together to provide or suggest to churches and para-church ministries valuable resources which are culturally relevant tools for use among Southeast Asian Americans. God is sending us, in the cultural context in which He has called us to live and work, to train leaders into spiritual health, so they can effectively serve God in His harvest field, wherever that may be. (John 17:11f; John 1:14; Matt. 9:37,38)

Conclusion

In light of our service to God and to one another, we resolve to join our efforts to reach, raise, and send out leaders into God’s harvest field. We will live a life that is worthy of the calling that God has placed upon us. We will be in prayer for one another in both ministry and life. May our feeble but faithful service be for the glory of Jesus Christ and not for us!
